Silver Lake, Ada County

Silver Lake Lakefront Silver Lake is a 38 acre artificial lake, operated and maintained by a number of entities for irrigation, irrigation storage, and aesthetics. In summer of 2006, Ada County Noxious Weed Control was awarded ISDA funds to treat the invasive aquatic plant Eurasian Watermilfoil. After good results in 2006, the treatment plan continued in 2007.

In June 2007, Silver Lake was surveyed and mapped to determine the remaining Eurasian Watermilfoil and to plan treatment areas. The Lake Harbor Home Owners Association at Silver Lake was willing to also treat three feeder ponds in their subdivision for Eurasian watermilfoil in order to prevent re-infestation of the lake.

In August 2007, nine acres of Eurasian watermilfoil were treated. Treatment often does not show full effectiveness until the following spring. The 2006 treatments demonstrated a marked reduction of Eurasian watermilfoil infestation in 2007, and the 2007 treatments should show further good results for 2008.
