Field Inspection

ISDA conducts phytosanitary field inspection on a wide variety of seed crops each year. Inspection applications are handled out of the Boise office for western Idaho northward to the Canadian border, and out of the Twin Falls office for all of eastern Idaho.

Field inspection is mainly used for export certification purposes. However, all bean seed parent plants planted in Idaho must be field inspected, and all onions, garlic, leeks, and other Allium seed crops must be inspected in parts of southern Idaho. Export and Phytosanitary Certification

Phytosanitary Certification facilitates export of agricultural seed products. ISDA conducts field inspections for export certification and issues phytosanitary certificates.

In addition to State Phytosanitary Certificates, ISDA issues Federal Phytosanitary Certificates in the State of Idaho under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) section of USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

To obtain a Federal Phytosanitary Certificate (phyto), each shipment must be inspected and an application must be submitted. You may need field inspection, treatment, or other things to be able to meet the entry requirements of the foreign country.
