Feed and Fertilizer Lab

Commercially available feeds, fertilizers and soil amendments are sampled by department inspectors and submitted to the lab for analysis of their guaranteed analytes.

Feeds may be tested for protein, fat, fiber, moisture, ash, minerals, drugs, antibiotics and vitamin A. Contaminant testing may include heavy metals, prohibited ruminant material, mycotoxins and weed seeds.

Fertilizers may be tested for nitrogen, phosphoric acid, potash, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, zinc and heavy metals.

Soil amendments may be tested for any of the fertilizer analytes and for moisture, pH, conductivity, maturity and screen size.

Although the laboratory's primary function is regulatory testing, it does occasionally accept samples on a fee basis.
