Dairy Lab
The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) Dairy Lab provides quality assurance for the testing of milk products. This lab also provides certification and accreditation of milk laboratories and analysts through on-site evaluations and split sample surveys.
Certification of Milk Laboratory Analysts
The dairy lab is certified by the Food and Drug Administration. The state Laboratory Evaluation Officers (LEOs) working in the dairy lab certify milk laboratories in the state of Idaho. Certification shall be based on the maintenance of the following criteria:
- The laboratory facilities of the analyst(s) meet the requirements of the Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products and/or Official Methods of Analysis of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists and those stated on the official milk laboratory forms (FD-2400 series) as determined by an on-site evaluation.
- Analyst(s) performance is in compliance with procedures by the Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance as described in Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products and/or Official Methods of Analysis of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists and on the official milk laboratory forms (FD-2400 series) during an on-site evaluation.
- The analyst(s) meets the performance levels of the proficiency testing program.
Accreditation of Milk Laboratories
Accreditation of milk laboratories by federal or state Laboratory Evaluation Officers (LEOs) shall be based on meeting the following requirements:
- The laboratory facilities meet the requirements of the Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products and/or Official Methods of Analysis of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists and those stated on the official milk laboratory forms (FD-2400 series) as determined by an on-site evaluation.
- All official examinations required by the Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance are performed by certified analyst(s).
The Food and Drug Administration laboratory accreditation and endorsement of sample collection surveillance procedures provides a national base for the uniform collection and examination of milk, in compliance with the sanitation standards of the Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance.
