Sucrose and Glucose Testing of Potatoes - (Potato Sugars Test)
The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Inspection Service (FF&V), considers themselves a partner with the Idaho agriculture industry they serve.
As an inspection service, we strive to better serve our industry through the expansion of our information technology and by keeping pace with the changing demands from the consumers at the market place. To that end, we now have a Yellow Springs Instrument (YSI) Laboratory in our Burley office to offer a new testing service to the potato industry relating to potato sugars, specifically sucrose and glucose levels. |
|
Testing potatoes in the field during the growing season and prior to vine kill may provide information to producers that can help avoid potential high sugar and/or sugar end problems that have been undetectable in the past, prior to fry testing. Testing in storage can also provide valuable information needed for storage management of sucrose and glucose levels. The more information a producer, shipper, and/or processor has relating to quality, the more power they have toward management and marketing decisions.
